About Me
My Jazz Story
I was first introduced to Jazz through the Jazz-Indian Classical fusion by Shakti (McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain et
al). I fell instantly in love. Over the next few years I explore more of this sub-genre and Ray Cooder-Vishwa
Mohan Bhatt's 'A Meeting By the River' was a high point in my discoveries. Slowly I started to gravitate
towards both traditional and contemporary jazz and started listening to the greats. Dave Brubeck's Take Five
became my reference. What I love most about Jazz, is that it is ready and eager to fuse. Fuse with Rock (love
Mahavishnu), World, Classical... you name it. I love when artists from different genres come together. And
most importantly, that Jazz is intuitive and improvisational. I believe that is true also about me as a person.
Jazz provides me the best balance between energy, creativity and soothingness - all of the characteristics I
seek in music. I don't have any advice to jazz listeners, but a request. Get beyond the more popular titles and
explore the deeper and wider reaches of Jazz. That's something I intend to do as well. I am listening to Al Di
Meola's ''Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody', a CD I bought from a collector yesterday as I type this. It isn't
anywhere among his top rated, but gives such immense listening pleasure! There's so much of depth of
richness in this genre... perhaps more than any other. Let's continue to dig into it and find wonderful riches. Also, as fellow listeners, let's jazz and let's
fuse! Long live Jazz!
