Na czym polega jazz? (What is Jazz about?) by Maciej
Flaczyński
Jazz polega na improwizowaniu. Najcz??ciej wykonawcy
najpierw graj? temat, po którym nast?puje partia
improwizowana zwykle oparta o szkielet harmoniczny
tematu (akordy).
Sam temat tez mo?e by? modyfikowany, np. niektóre nuty
?atwo go rozpozna?.
mo?liwo?? zagrania solówki podczas koncertu, basista i
perkusista te?.
Tu celebruje si? warto?? muzyki samej w sobie.
W jazzie wa?ny jest indywidualny ton, brzmienie,
wirtuozeria gry muzyka, promuje si? kreatywno?? i szybkie
reagowanie na zmieniaj?ce si? w jazzie akordy, a
akompaniuj?cy muzycy tez improwizuj?, to z jednej strony
inspiruje solist?, ale te?
wymaga wielkiego skupienia i wiedzy.
tez w akompaniamencie, warstwie harmonicznej, czyli
akordowej. Dlatego np. mamy w akordach zapisane C7, a
muzyk u?ywaj?c swojego wyczucia mo?e go
zmodyfikowa?, dodaj?c kolejny sk?adnik akordu, np. Du??
non? (powstaje C7/#9) zmienia to charakter akordu np. na
bardziej drapie?ny.
Jazz nie lubi kompromisów a lubi eksperyment, np. Dave
by?, np. rytm walca w miejscu rytmu bossa nowy. Dave
przyjecha? z koncertem do Polski w czasie g??bokiej
komuny i by? to powiew nowo?ci, jakby kto? uchyli?
kurtyn?, za któr? istnieje jaki? lepszy ?wiat. Chyba nawet
by?a to ?wiadoma misja tych koncertów.
znajomo?ci czytania nut. Czyli na ?ucho”. Ja np. jako
gitarzysta g?ównie akompaniuj?cy wszystkie akordy
dzia?ania harmoniczne.
?rodowisko jazzmanów porównuj? do ?rodowiska
wspinaczy wysokogórskich, s? tak samo niepokorni i
odwa?ni.
Jazz ??czy muzyków. Umo?liwia wspóln? gr? tym, którzy
si? wcze?niej nie znali. Z jednej strony to efekt du?ych
umiej?tno?ci muzyków jazzowych, z drugiej efekt istnienia
Jazz poprzez swoje liczne odmiany mo?e trafia? w gust
ró?nych ludzi i generowa? ró?ne odczucia, np. Dixieland
(weso?y, witalny nastrój), cool jazz (uspokojenie, ukojenie),
free jazz (chaos, wy?ycie si?, szaleństwo), swing (zach?ca
do tańca,
muzyka rozrywkowa), be bop (pojawi? si? jako odtrutka na
cukierkowy charakter swingu, zwi?kszono szybko?? gry,
by? prób? przywrócenia jazzowi bardziej artystycznego
wyrazu)

What is jazz? (What is Jazz about?) By Maciej Flaczyński
Jazz is about improvising. Most often, the performers play
the theme first, followed by an improvised part, usually
based on the harmonic framework of the theme (chords).
The main theme itself can also be modified, e.g. some
notes sound longer, are played later, etc. which no longer
corresponds to the composer's original notation, but is still
easy to recognize.
Jazz is liberal, i.e. every musician in the band has the
opportunity to play a solo during the concert, and so do
the bassist and drummer. The value of music itself is
celebrated here.
In jazz, the individual tone, sound, virtuosity of the
musician's playing are important, creativity and quick
response to changing chords in jazz are promoted, and the
accompanying musicians also improvise, which on the one
hand inspires the soloist, but also requires great
concentration and knowledge.
Individuality manifests itself not only during the solo, but
also in the accompaniment, the harmonic, or chord, layer.
That is why, for example, we have C7 written in the
chords, and the musician, using his sense, can modify it by
adding another component of the chord, for example a
large ninth (C7 / # 9 is created), this changes the character
of the chord to, for
example, a more predatory one.
Jazz does not like compromises and likes experiments, eg
Dave Brubeck often played the piano in a percussive way,
he used strange rhythms in places where they should not
be, eg waltz rhythm in place of the boss rhythm new. Dave
came to Poland with a concert during the deep
communism and it was a breath of novelty, as if someone
had lifted a curtain behind which there is a better world. I
guess it was even a conscious mission of these concerts.
Contrary to appearances, you can also learn to play jazz
without reading sheet music. So by "ear". For example, as
a guitarist who mainly accompanies all the chords of the
pieces, I have those chords in my memory and I do not
need notes (score), which gives me more space for creative
harmonic activities.
I compare the jazz community to the environment of high
mountain climbers, they are just as rebellious and brave.
They are also like Dj's, they sample, mixing styles and
rythm.
Jazz connects musicians. It enables those who did not
know each other to play together. On the one hand, it is
the effect of the great skills of jazz musicians, on the other
hand, the phenomenon of the so-called jazz standards, i.e.
the most popular jazz pieces that most jazzmen know. You
can learn them from the so-called realbooks, but are
known to hear, almost every famous jazzman has them in
his repertoire and performs them in his own specific way.
Jazz, through its many varieties, can appeal to the tastes of
different people and generate different feelings, e.g.
Dixieland (happy, vital mood), cool jazz (calming,
soothing), free jazz (chaos, getting wild), swing
(encouraging to dance) , light music), be bop (appeared as
an antidote to the candy nature of swing, increased
playing speed, was an attempt to restore jazz to a more
artistic expression)
