Mark Wainwright
Long time UK punk guitarist learning to bop.
About Me
After playing rhythm guitar with
more enthusiasm than skill in
punk and 60s garage bands for 4
decades I decided to learn to play
properly a couple of years ago.
Always loved Miles and Ella since
I was a kid but now getting
deeper into the jazz rabbit hole
and open to suggestions for old
and new stuff to dig.
My Jazz Story
I was first exposed to jazz by my
dad singing Summertime around
the house and getting me to listen
to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis
Armstrong when I was very
young.
The best show I ever attended
was Lorne Lofsky and Nigel Price
in Bristol, UK.
The first jazz record I bought was
a cheap Billie Holliday Best Of LP
when I was 14
My advice to new listeners - read
Ted Gioia’s The History Of Jazz
and listen to The Jazz Bastard
podcast.
