I love jazz because, for me, it's the ultimate in expression and improvisation. I always find hidden nuances when listening to jazz even if it is a song I've listened to numerous times. I also find that jazz has a way of being the most suitable soundtrack to whatever mood that I find myself in. My advice to new listeners would be to just dive in. I wasn't given any real guidance when I began listening to jazz. I wasn't exposed to it by friends or family members. I kind of stumbled upon it and dove in head first with no real direction or agenda and I loved that it was so "new" and "fresh" sounding. Even though the majority of what I was listening to had been recorded long before I was even born. Also, and this was the case with me, continue to listen with open ears and an open mind. Eventually sounds that may not have resonated with you at the beginning will begin to.
