Savina Yannatou is a singer-vocalist and composer.
Born in Athens, Greece, studied singing at the Workshop of Vocal Art in Athens with Spyros Sakkas, and G. Georgilopoulou, and on a scholarship from Mousigetis Foundation she attended PCS course at London?s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
She started working as a singer, in the Greek National Radio 3, in collaboration mainly with the composer Lena Platonos, and as a member of the “Early Music Workshop” in the 80’s.
She has collaborated with many composers, mainly in Greece, in different genres of music.
Since 1993 together with the group ?Primavera en Salonico?, she interprets songs of the Mediterranean and the Balkans in music festivals and venues all over the world, (Barbican, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Melbourne Concert Hall, Symphony Space in New York, the London Jazz festival, many WOMAD festivals in different countries, Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco, Moers New Music Festival, Rudolstadt Folk Festival and UCLA in Los Angeles…) and recording for LYRA and ECM records.
As a free-jazz vocalist she has collaborated with: Peter Kowald, Barry Guy, Gunther Baby Sommer , Floros Floridis, Gerald Preinfalk, Günther Pitscheider, Klaus Treuheit, Nikos Touliatos, and the Ensemble Medea Electronique”.
She has composed music for theater ( National Greek Theatre, National Theater of Northern Greece, Thessalian Theater, Theater of Neos Kosmos, Playback Theater ) for pantomime theater, video art and documentary film.
She has brought out 25 personal CDs as a singer or songwriter and has participated in many other LPs and CDs.
Occasionally she gives workshops on free vocal improvisation.
