My Jazz Story
I love jazz because... improvisation is the best way to feed our musical consciousness
I was first exposed to jazz... in Houston, during a family reunion. There were players playing in a hot five group on the waterfront and I met them and bought a CD from them.
I met [musician name]... Brad Mehldau at the Smoke Jazz Club jam session. He talked about how he liked playing Beethoven and was very down to earth.
The best show I ever attended was... The Newport Jazz Festival in 2023 headlined by Herbie Hancock and Terence Blanchard.
The first jazz record I bought was... Taylor's Dream by Taylor Eigsti
My advice to new listeners... There IS a creator of this music that speaks directly to YOU. You just have to look hard enough to find it.
My House Concert Story
The Jazz club at Chez Hanny is a speakeasy run in a living room in University mound, San Francisco. Some amazing music is created there, and the acoustics are incredible. I was invited to perform there on multiple occasions and the musical experience was incredible. Hard to believe this venue is in a house. It's the best kept secret in the SF area.
