Michael Clement
Michael Clement is a pianist and composer known for his versatility in jazz, contemporary, and cinematic music. A UNT One O’Clock Lab Band alumnus, he was featured on the band's acclaimed album Lab 2019 and has performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, including programs featuring film scores and guest artists such as Capathia Jenkins and Take 6. His musicianship has earned him First Prize at the Ravenscroft International Jazz Piano Competition and the Yamaha Award at the American Jazz Pianist Competition. An in-demand soloist and sideman, Clement is recognized for his expressive touch, deep rhythmic sensibility, and storytelling approach to improvisation.
As a composer and arranger, Clement’s works have been performed by jazz ensembles, orchestras, and chamber groups. His composition Evading Karmacities, written for large jazz ensemble, was selected for the Young Composer Showcase Award at the 2021 Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference. His music has also been featured in film and television, including projects streaming on Amazon Prime, bridging traditional and modern influences to create a distinctive voice for the concert stage and screen.
An experienced educator, Clement has taught over 200 students through his online course, The Jazz Piano Launchpad, guiding pianists in improvisation and creative expression. He holds degrees in classical piano performance, jazz piano performance, and jazz composition from the University of North Texas.
Whether performing, composing, or mentoring musicians, Clement remains dedicated to expanding the creative possibilities of the piano while staying deeply rooted in its traditions.
