Poll Tips and Fixes
For those who have struggled to cast votes, try this simple method: Vote for three musicians and be sure to wait for the autocomplete list to load before SELECTING the name. Once you cast your vote, go to your My Polls page. From there, you can add more names and up to the maximum allowable amount. This page is accessible by also clicking "View my voting history" under the "Polls" tab on your AAJ member page.
All About Jazz is a relational database and we host nearly 133,000 musician pages. Each musician is associated with a single instrument. In the case of Chet Baker, his primary instrument was "trumpet," so he was ineligible from the legacy vocals poll. Like we did with guitarists and pianists, I added a "trumpet and vocal" instrument designation so Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong and Louis Prima are now eligible for the legacy vocalist poll.
Ray Charles, Champion Fulton, Mose Allison, Leon Redbone and Nina Simone were listed as pianists only and they received this designation prior to the "piano and vocal" addition. We set them all to "piano and vocal" so they are all eligible for their respective polls as well.
Captain Beefheart was also categorized as a vocalist, so he's also eligible for the legacy poll.
If other musicians should have their instrument designations changed, please post them to the comments section below.
