" data-original-title="" title="">Harold Mabern. "Reincarnation Blues" is warm and inviting, slowly playing out and allowing listeners to fully immerse themselves in the trio's fascinating interplay. Late in the exchange, Diehl breaks out and shifts the tempo with an inventive improvisation. Jamal's "Seleritus" is upbeat and energetic, showcasing the trio's catchy grooves and playful interaction. The rhythmic interplay between Sorey, Diehl, and Brewer is infectious, and their enthusiasm is palpable. The fourteen-minute version of "Angel Eyes" slowly unfolds with Diehl and Brewer; Sorey takes his time before subtly punctuating the mood. "In What Direction Are You Headed" closes the set with improvisational flair. The trio's ability to listen and respond to each other in real-time creates a sense of telepathy.

Continuing is even more accessible than Mesmerism but the two make terrific companion pieces. There is a good deal of warmth on this album; at times it feels like comfort food for the ears but served on a very hot plate. Diehl and Brewer have backgrounds which are substantially more mainstream than Sorey. Diehl has worked with the likes of
