The shuffling "So Bro," possessing a catchy, bluesy head, is well-placed at the album's midpoint, and the second half of the program proves to be just as enjoyable as the first. The title track, with its bright drive, Latin spicing, strong solo work and soulful bearing, hits a number of sweet spots. "I Got Somethin'" satisfies with bebop bona fides. "Cruisin' High," coasting along over Riley's "Poinciana"-esque groove before shifting to swing time behind Lee, is at once rooted and air-bound. And closer "Pick Peck" returns to the bop well with positive results. Precision, concision, good taste and spontaneity are core components of Mike Clement's work, and all play an equal part in the success of Hittin' It. ">
