Shrieve may indeed get top billing here but like so many of the tracks from that line-up's disc, "Palace Of Dreams" is a veritable showcase for the late Mr. Lane. While there are indeed flashes of the guitarist's legendary technical facility, it's perhaps the other things highlighted here—Lane's vocal-shadowing technique, tonal control, sheer eloquence, and qawwali-tinged melodicism—that make this track something truly special among the recorded works that survive him.
