Tevet Sela
Alto saxophonist Tevet Sela brings a wealth and breadth of influences to his playing that few musicians possess. The adept and dexterous post bopper’s music is often drenched in heavy blues, klezmer and Middle-Eastern inflections. His music is full of wisdom, emotion and storytelling.
Tevet started his professional musical career while he was in his teens, frequently performing his original compositions and becoming a sought-after session player. He contributed his unique sound to TV and film soundtracks, and to numerous albums, including the multi-platinum ‘’Idan Raichel Project’’ album.
As a graduate of the prestigious Thelma Yellin School of Arts, Tevet has toured in France and the Netherlands as its big band featured soloist. He was featured in an international UNICEF benefit concert that was broadcasted from the Netherlands to 35 countries and that featured artists such as David Bowie, Youssou N'dour, Al Jarreau.
In addition, Tevet holds a diploma in music education, and won many grants from the Canada council for the arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the America-Israel cultural fund.
Since moving to Montreal in 2010, Tevet quickly became a prominent figure in the vibrant Canadian jazz scene. His albums gain raving reviews and much airplay: 'Tevet Sela' 2003, 'Coming True' 2007, ‘Jazz Flute’ 2010, ’Lying Sun' 2014, ‘The River’ 2017, ‘Mizmor’ 2019, ‘Live at The Rex’ 2023 and ‘Sweet Tears’ 2024.
For over two decades, Tevet has performed in countless international jazz festivals and venues, and was nominated for both the '’TD Grand Jazz award’' and the '’Prix Opus'’ in the category ‘'Jazz concert of the year’'..

“His music gives a new meaning to the word “original”. The reason for this is Mr Sela is, first and foremost, a storyteller who forms musical narratives based on ideas rather than melodic hooks and gratuitous gestures”.
