This week I'm broadcasting live from the Crescent City--the Birthplace of Jazz--New Orleans where they are preparing for the 10th Annual Satchmo Summerfest this coming weekend!
For more information about all the events and full schedule, please visit: http://www.fqfi.org/satchmosummerfest/
Last week I covered some of the artists that will be performing as part of the Satchmo Club Strut presented as a fund raiser for New Orleans Jazz Celebration. In case you missed it, please visit their website for the full schedule, tickets and details.
This week I continue with a more in depth look at the Satchmo Summerfest, providing audio examples of some of the styles of music that will be featured--such as Traditional Jazz played by Tim Laughlin, Jamil Sharif, and Dr. Michael White . . . the sound of New Orleans exemplified in the blues shuffle & swing of Kermit Ruffins, Jeremy Davenport, and Leroy Jones . . . and of course, Brass Band music played by the Storyville Stompers and Treme Brass Band . . . as well as the Hot Swing / Gypsy Jazz of Linnzi Zaorski. They are all part of the sound and spirit of New Orleans!
It's going to be a hot time in the Crescent City this weekend--so, grab your umbrella, get a clean handkerchief, prepare your taste-buds for a bowl of gumbo and a plate of beignets, and get ready to second line ya'll!
If you're down in New Orleans this week, let me know . . . and I'd also love to hear from anyone, anywhere in the world with any comments, questions or requests for future shows. Just send an e-mail to [email protected]
