Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates the holiday season with the premiere of Big Band Holidays on December 19, and A New Years Eve Celebration: Live From Dizzy’s on December 31—two new virtual concerts featuring iconic guest artists and emerging stars in jazz.

Big Band Holidays features brand new performances of the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and the finest names in vocal jazz including Rubén Blades, Catherine Russell, Kurt Elling, and Ashley Pezzotti exploring the canon of holiday standards including favorites like “Winter Wonderland,” “‘Zat You, Santa Claus?,” ‘Nutcracker Suite, Mvt. III,” “O Tannenbaum,” “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!,” and “Little Drummer Boy."

Holiday celebrations have been a seasonal tradition at Jazz at Lincoln Center since December 1989. This year’s new virtual presentation of Big Band Holidays, combining new performances recorded at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, virtual at-home recordings, and highlights from historical Big Band Holidays holiday concerts, is certain to keep the holiday tradition timeless and modern.

For this New Year’s Eve edition of Live From Dizzy’s, the Emmet Cohen Trio with special guests Houston Person and Samara Joy McLendon return to Dizzy’s to perform holiday classics like “ What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve," “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas;” tunes by George Gershwin and Cole Porter; and rare gems such as “Good Morning Heartache.”

Pianist and bandleader Emmet Cohen is one of the most in-demand musicians in New York. As both a sideman and bandleader, he has quickly become an integral part of the cross-generational jazz community thriving in New York City. Cohen’s trio, made up of Russell Hall on bass and Kyle Poole on drums, has become a first-call rhythm section for top vocalists and instrumentalists, in addition to being a popular headlining band in its own right. The trio will be joined by rising star vocalist Samara Joy McLendon, recent winner of the Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition; and a master of the music, 86-year-old tenor saxophonist Houston Person.

“Dizzy's Club has felt like home for our entire eight-year tenure in New York City,” says Emmet. “Russell Hall, Kyle Poole, and I have honed our craft there, created countless memories, and planted valuable seeds for the evolution of our music. It is with joy, hope, love, and clarity that we will foster in the year 2021, inviting people around the world to celebrate with us.”

This New Year’s Eve performance will feature an artist interview, hosted by Jazz at Lincoln Center Concerts and Touring Associate Yunie Mojica, prior to the set.

Twenty-four hours before the concert event, ticket holders will receive a private online link and password with access to view the performance.
