O Som Do Jazz

Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, this sextet features Rio de Janeiro singer Andrea Moraes Manson and a crew of experienced Latin jazz musicians performing samba-jazz, Bossa Nova, Balanço, Baião and MPB. O Som Do Jazz (the sound of jazz in Portuguese) recaptures the grace, energy and spirit of 1960s Brazilian music.

Trained as an architect, O Som Do Jazz singer Andrea Moraes Manson moved to the Tampa Bay area from Rio de Janeiro, she began performing with her jazz musician husband, David Manson. Andrea has a natural understanding of this wonderful music and sings from the heart, like only a Brazilian can, in Portuguese and English

Rebecca Hass

Born: 1983

Rebecca Hass is a pianist and composer in the San Francisco Bay Area whose work has “a witty sensibility, lyricism, and joy.” Her debut Brazilian album, Florescer (Bloom), was described as “thoughtful as it is clever and original” and “a delightful 43 minutes of musical sunshine”, and includes guests Tim O’Keefe, Jenny Klukken, and Laura Harada. 

Her new album of original piano music, Bright Little Worlds, is an imaginative, heart-filled collection of 22 compositions in various styles (Brazilian, jazz, impressionistic, neo-classical, and more) and is arranged in a hero’s journey-style narrative trajectory where each one is its own character or little world - something for every mood. It features guest musicians Debbie Gold (flute) and Brian Rice (pandeiro), and is inspired by influences as diverse as Hermeto Pascoal, Laercio de Freitas, Claude Debussy, Aaron Copland, Vince Guaraldi, and Thelonious Monk.

Mauricio de Souza

Born: November 11, 1979

Born in Bras��lia, Brazil, Maur��cio de Souza is a professional jazz drummer who easily performs in both traditional jazz and Brazilian jazz styles. De Souza was a pupil of world renowned jazz drummer Joe Morello. Coming from a musical family, de Souza began playing drums at age eleven. His early interest in complex music led him to explore numerous styles ranging from progressive rock, to classical music, to jazz. Since 2004, de Souza has directed/performed with his own groups: Maur��cio de Souza Group (Straight Ahead Jazz) and Bossa Brasil? (Brazilian Jazz).
