Emily Remler

Born:
Dreaming with Pick in Mouth
In the mid 80's a unique listening opportunity
descended on the jazz lovers of Charlottesville Virginia.
Emily Remler and Larry Coryell stayed in Charlottesvile for
a short time in order to develop material for a album that
they planned. They held spontaneous sessions at a local
watering hole, often with no announcement. They did not
introduce themselves when onstage, but did introduce the
"sitters," those local musicians who often sat in with them.
This sometimes led to rather unusual audience dynamics.
The bar was popular with University students, who
frequently hadn't got the word on who was playing.
Sometimes they would play "quarters" loudly and ignore the
activity on stage
Michael Dease: City Life: Music of Gregg Hill

by Dan McClenaghan
Jazz trios featuring a horn, bass and drums get right to the core of musical expression. With, most commonly, a saxophone--see Sonny Rollins' blueprint for the horn and trio setting, the 1957 Contemporary Records album Way Out West--the music flows freely. The players do not need to chase chords around. The result is a stretching of ...

I Dischi del 2024 secondo Ludovico Granvassu

by Ludovico Granvassu
Ludovico Granvassu's Garden of Jazzy Delights 2024

by Ludovico Granvassu
Have you noticed how many best of the year" listicles start with an apologetic preamble ("these are not necessarily 'the best albums of the year' but 'my favorites';" it's all subjective;" tomorrow I might have chosen different titles;" I could only select ten albums" etc.)? Those disclaimers channel the writer's discomfort of having to summarize a ...
