The Beeched Wailers are: Nicholas Dyson, trumpet Tyler Harris, saxophone Alex Tompkins, guitar Keith Hartshorn-Walton, bass & tuba Michel Delage, drums The Beeched Wailers are a jazz quintet from Ottawa, Canada. We’ve played together in other bands for years, and started The Beeched Wailers in January 2014. We play original music written by members of the band, and always feature many other composers from Ottawa, Canada such as Steve Boudreau, Mark Ferguson, Petr Cancura, Garry Elliott, and Mike Essoudry, Vince Rimbach and Peter Hum. We have hosted our Tuesday Night Jazz Jam on a weekly basis since March 2014. The Beeched Wailers’ individual band member sideman credits read like a who’s-who of the international music industry - Dave Brubeck, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Jamie Cullum and more. We all reside in Ottawa, Canada, and work locally with groups as diverse as Los Gringos, Mélanie E, Old Stereo, Riishi Von Rex, Trouble Clef, and Mackenzie Rhythm Section. All of The Beeched Wailers are active teachers as well as performers, two of us teach music at Carleton University.

Nicholas Dyson

Born:
Nicholas Dyson is one of Ottawa, Canada’s busiest trumpeters. He performs reguarly with The Beeched Wailers, Los Gringos, Rob Frayne’s Dream Band, The Yohawks, and Tilda. Nicholas has also played with the National Arts Centre Orchestra Pops, Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Gatineau, Capital Brassworks, and musical theatre shows such as A Chorus Line, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Drowsy Chaperone and The Producers. Nicholas has also worked with Dave Brubeck, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole, Jamie Cullum, Kim Massie, Paul Anka, The Temptations, The Coasters, The Platters, Solomon Douglas Swingtet, Patrick Watson and Broken Social Scene. Nicholas has contributed to albums by Solomon Douglas Swingtet, Tilda, That’s The Spirit, SoulJazz Orchestra ('Rising Sun' 2011 JUNO nomination and 'Solidarity' (2013 JUNO nomination), Slim Moore & the Mar-Kays, Mike Essoudry’s Mash Potato Mashers, The Yohawks, Orienteers, Phil Motion & the Easy Lo-Fi, plus a live concert recording for Radio Canada with Los Gringos. In addition to maintaining a busy private trumpet studio, Nicholas is the director of Capital Youth Jazz Orchestra

Garry Elliott

Garry Elliott, is an Ottawa guitarist specializing in classical and jazz guitar performance and instruction. Offering guitar instruction in both Classical guitar and Jazz guitar, Garry received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Ottawa, where he studied with Michael Strutt. He also participated in masterclasses with David Russell and Manuel Barruecco. As a classical guitarist, Garry provides live music services as a soloist, and also plays in duos and trios for weddings, cermonies and events. He collaborates regularly with Ottawa musicians, including flutist Gertrude Létourneau, with whom he has recorded the CD Haba?era, and has recently released the CD Pre Dawn Skies with pianist Steve Boudreau

A passionate improviser and prolific composer, Canadian jazz guitarist Roddy Ellias is an artist whose work defies simple definition. His musical journey has taken him from his early roots in pop and R&B bands and classical music, to the improvised world of jazz, through African and other world beats all the way to writing an opera, and everything in between. Along the way he’s performed with some of the great names in jazz, from Lee Konitz and David Liebman to Joel Frahm and Dr. Lonny Johnston.

Craig Pedersen

Award winning trumpet and composer Craig Pedersen is one of Canada's busiest creative musicians. Since moving to Ottawa from Victoria, BC, via Montreal three years ago, he has released three discs, with 2 more in the works, and has co- founded a twice-a-month improvised music concert series which has features the finest improvising musicians of Ottawa/Outaouais. A 2011 Canada Council Professional Musician grant winner, 2009 participant in Dave Douglas’ International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in Banff, AB, and 2009 participant at Ed Carroll’s Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale, Craig has quickly become an indispensable musician in the Ottawa music scene.

Linsey Wellman

An active member of the Ottawa, Canada music scene since receiving his Bachelor of Music in 2001 from Carleton University where he studied saxophone with Rob Frayne, Linsey Wellman is known as a creative and spontaneous improvisor on the alto and soprano saxophones, the alto and standard flutes, and the bass clarinet. Ever adaptable, he has plied his trade with Sun Ra tribute Rakestar Arkestra, marching band Mike Essoudry’s Mash Potato Mashers, Gamelan Semara Winangun, calypso outfit Kobo Town, Punjabi folk/fusion project Galitcha, and with avant-jazz outfit the Craig Pedersen Quartet, all while taking part in countless improvised music and jazz ensembles

Thomas McMahon

Tom McMahon is an accomplished performer and composer who has ventured into many styles of music. Tom graduated with honours from Humber College Music Program and along with Baliset also plays acoustic bass, fretless and fretted electric bass. No stranger to the studio, he has recorded with many musicians and vocalists, participated in radio and television programs and entertained local and international audiences in live performances.

Karl Nerenberg is en enthusiastic amateur player, who has played keyboard with the Ottawa bands "Verona Katz", "Stay Tuned/Restez-à-l'écoute", and a number of singers, notably Samantha Christ François, Ferline Regis, and Michèle Castonguay.
He enjoys playing blues, standards, Latin tunes and jazz treatments of folk and country tunes. His aim is bring the fun back into jazz. He plays accessible and spirited music, that includes some soul and gospel, as well as lots of well-known and lesser-known standards, and material in French and Spanish.

The rich laughter that punctuates Diane White’s speech at regular intervals conveys a great deal about her personality: she is exuberant, passionate and sensual. Diane loves life and the arts; nowhere is that love better expressed than in her music, which she has been performing since the age of three. Diane was fortunate to be born into a family who valued the discipline and intellectual stimulation provided by studying the arts. The White’s enrolled their daughter in Russian Ballet and piano, providing her with the strong foundation that underlies her considerable talent as a jazz vocalist and musician.
