Jordan Young

All of the songs are original compositions. Calder's Universe has a diversity of styles ranging from bluesy grooves to soft introspective pieces, and each song delivers. Despite the variety, the album has a cohesive quality overall.
The title song has something of a double meaning. On one level it is a reference to the artist Alexander Calder, but it is also a tribute to Zolan's father, who passed away in 2009. Calder was his father's favorite artist, and the song serves as a meaningful tribute. In keeping with this spirit, Zolan pays tribute throughout the album to many of the musicians who have inspired him over the years.
This is an album that deserves repeated listening. The level of musicianship and the quality of the songs gives listeners something to appreciate on several different levels. Eric Zolan is clearly someone who has an appreciation for jazz and a formidable talent for performing it. Calder's Universe is a universe worth exploring. ">
