Mazurek's eighth instalment of his Exploding Star Orchestra (ESO) explorations, Lightning Dreamers, follows his 2020 release Dimensional Stardust (International Anthem Recording Co.) with a slightly smaller ensemble, this time an octet which is expanded on the track "Black River" by samples of a much larger ESO live performance from February, 2022. That performance included the trumpet of Jaime Branch who would depart this life later that same year at just 39 years old.
The sounds are an amalgamation of concepts from the Art Ensemble of Chicago,
