The name ��Ahmadish�� is a nod to the classic 1970 trio album The Awakening by late NEA Jazz Master Ahmad Jamal (1930-2023). Bandleader and composer Alex Chadsey cites the album��s influence in his formative years and notes that it has been sampled by hip-hop artists such as Nas and Common, solidifying its place not only within the jazz canon but also as part of the broader cultural landscape. One of many tributes on Duende Libre��s new album Invocation, ��Ahmadish�� pays homage to Jamal and the evolution of his signature style, a style infused with the rare ability to transcend the jazz idiom. Duende Libre will celebrate the release of Invocation at The Triple Door in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, June 7.
