Now approaching the end of his sixth year as producer and host of the hour-long show, Linus joyously conveys that “having a platform to introduce the music of up-and-coming jazz musicians to a wider audience never gets old.” The forthcoming seventh season opens up further opportunities to have the music of new talents from inside and outside the New Yorker circuit speak for itself on Linus’ internet radio show.

Not a talk show per se, Linus sporadically invites artists to talk about their new projects nonetheless. Being a sought-after musician himself in the Big Apple, the Berklee-graduate embraces a unique relationship with musicians, consequently providing the listeners with a backstage pass to the New Yorker jazz scene. The music that Linus airs on “The Jazz Hole” has generally been recorded within the past ten years or so, though most of it tends to be brand new. “Making the show definitely pushes me to stay in the loop,” says Linus. He adds, however, that jazz is too broad of a term to please everybody during a one-hour show. “Stylistically, I try to vary as much as I can in order to keep listeners (and myself) interested. Maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation is important, but the direction a particular show can go into really varies.” His shows have indeed featured just about anything from mainstream jazz to the city’s underground sessions, from Latin and Brazilian jazz to European jazz, from Rock- and Soul-infused to Bluegrass-infused jazz and more.
