The City of Jacksonville is proud to announce an exciting lineup of performances for the 2011 Jacksonville Jazz Festival scheduled for Thursday, May 26 through Sunday, May 29. All festival performances and elements are free and open to the public unless otherwise listed.
This year's festival will continue the tradition of jazz in Jacksonville with a variety of jazz genres and featured activities in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. Special components include Art in the Heart Downtown, a juried art show and sale, and the Wine Down/Brew Town Tasting Experience featuring a variety of fine wines and beers. Other activities include the 'Round Midnight Jazz Jams (two nights), Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition, Generation Next Youth Talent Competition presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, a jazz brunch, a jazz jamboree, exhibits and educational activities.

7 p.m. Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition
The Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition has been a Jacksonville tradition for more than 20 years. Five finalists, chosen by a selection committee through blind" judging, will compete for the honor of this award. The first-place winner will receive a $2,000 prize and will perform at the 2011 Jacksonville Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 28, at the Swingin' stage presented by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority (corner of Main and Monroe streets). The five finalists will be announced in late April.
Noel Freidline will emcee the competition. A rhythm section will accompany the five finalists during the piano competition, with Danny Gottlieb on drums and Dennis Marks on bass.
General admission ticket prices for the competition are $10 plus applicable service charges. Tickets may be purchased at The Florida Theatre Box Office (904) 355-2787 (ARTS). The Florida Theatre Box Office is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
