MONTREAL, QC (CANADA): On May 20, 2011, the mythic trio, Ma?kotron Unit, releases their new album Ex-Voto. Quebec-based Ma?kotron Unit is a trio dedicated to research in New Music. The first ma?kotron instrument was built in 1983 and it is the cornerstone of the trio's acoustic creations. Its sounds reach below the range of the bass saxophone.
Even though this is the seventh recording of the Ma?kotron Unit, it is the first to appear on compact disc. Following its 26 years of evolution, the trio has momentarily left the fringe and the shadows with Ex-Voto. Inspired by my own small paintings, a reminder of votive art, the music is the result of a unique artistic development and work path. Like an ex-voto, the music of the Ma?kotron Unit is an offering, celebrating its own emergence and survival." Michel Lambert from the liner notes
a group whose work has been compared to Stravinsky." New York Monthly Herald
Sets like these are why one goes to festivals abroad. The chance to see such a compelling performance and one that is, even better, an unknown quantity, is extremely valuable." All About Jazz
The trio features:
Michel C?té: bass clarinet, saxophones, ma?kotron
Pierre C?té: bass, cello
